“Most people wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time.”

Sound familiar? It’s rarely about not having enough clothes — it’s about not being able to see what we own.

Overflowing, disorganised wardrobes make it almost impossible to access everything, so we default to the same few pieces on repeat.

Here’s a simple, practical way to organise your wardrobe for the new season so you can actually use it — and get maximum value from every item you own.

Benefits of Closet Curation

When your wardrobe is organised and intentional, everything shifts:

You can see and access your clothes easily, which sparks inspiration and outfit creativity.

You stop defaulting to the same combinations, usually the first few items within reach.

You avoid buying duplicates of pieces you already own but forgot about (lost in the wardrobe “Tardis”).

You can clearly identify gaps, making shopping more focused, strategic, and cost-effective.

Preparing Your Wardrobe

Start by creating space.

Pack away anything you won’t be wearing this season - ideally in another wardrobe, or in suit— suitcases or bags, add lavender soaps or sachets to keep everything fresh.

Bonus: When you bring these clothes back out next season, it feels like rediscovering a whole new wardrobe — especially those end-of-season sale finds you barely wore. familiar? It’s rarely about not having enough clothes — it’s about not being able to How to Organise Your Wardrobeee what we own.

Instead - think of your wardrobe like a boutique.

1. Group by Lifestyle

Create sections based on how you actually live:

Work

Weekend

Evenings / events

Casual / lifestyle

2. Organise by Item and Colour

Within each section:

Hang items by type (e.g. dresses, shirts, trousers)

Arrange colours from light to dark

Use one hanger per item so nothing gets hidden

You’ll likely have extra hangers now that off-season items are stored — use them.

3. Apply the Same System Everywhere

For items you don’t hang:

Fold knitwear, jeans, and tees by colour so they’re visible

Arrange accessories and shoes in a way that showcases them

The Result

You’ve just created mini capsules (or “mini shops”) within your wardrobe.

This makes getting dressed faster and easier:

Workday? Head straight to your work section

Weekend plans? Go to your casual area

Night out? Your evening pieces are ready and waiting

No more digging. No more overwhelm. Just clarity and ease. default to the same few pieces on repeat.

Real life isn’t one-size-fits-all.

If you have a smaller wardrobe, your pieces may need to work across multiple areas

If your lifestyle is flexible, you might prefer fully transitional or trans-seasonal dressing

In these cases, organising by item and colour (like a retail store) still works beautifully. It gives you a fresh perspective and helps you maximise versatility.

Tips & Ideas

Invest in velvet or wooden hangers — they save space, prevent slipping, and create a clean, cohesive look

Use the hanging ribbons inside garments to stop them sliding off hangers

Loop scarves over a hanger or use a scarf organiser to display them

Store shoes in boxes with a photo or note of whats inside on the outside (a little extra, but incredibly effective)
