The easiest way to add balance and elevate an outfit is through contrasting colour, and the best part is you can start using it immediately without buying anything!

Understanding Contrast
Contrasting colours come in many forms - opposites on the colour wheel (like the red and green above) or - dark and light contrast (like the photo below. of me!)

Start small and build your confidence
A good place to start is with 60 % Base colour - carries the look without stealing focus
30 % Supporting colour - adds depth and contrast
10% Accent - small but statement making
For example: In the photo above 60% base colour is Chocolate Trouser
30% supporting colour Mint Top (and Sandals which you cant see in the photo)
10% accent colour Pale Blue Sunglasses (and necklace and watch strap)

An obvious contrast is black and white, but adding a contrast adds interest and balance.

Understanding Accents
In fashion, a "10% accent" involves using small elements to significantly enhance an outfit's aesthetic. These accents serve as focal points, drawing attention and creating cohesion. Incorporating accents that make up about 10% of the design achieves a harmonious yet striking look.
Conclusion
There are so many colour variations for contrasting outfits and ultimately - It's about finding those combinations that work for you, your palette and your personal taste.
Play in your wardrobe, on pinterest and on paper to see which combinations light you up and how many of your own outfits you can refresh using colour contrast and accents.
Follow nature - any natural contrasts are going to work in outfits too.
Pro Tip - These colour principals also work in interior design and can enliven a room instantly!
